Built for Consistent Drilling Performance
A tapered drill bit is only as effective as its carbide quality, taper accuracy, and fit with the drill rod.
Our tapered bits are designed for contractors and distributors who need reliable performance across repeated drilling cycles—not simply a low-cost replacement.
Longer Service Life
High-grade tungsten carbide buttons provide strong resistance to impact, wear, and abrasive rock conditions.
- Durable carbide buttons
- Wear-resistant bit body
- Stable button retention
- Suitable for demanding rock formations
- Designed for longer working life
Less frequent bit replacement means less downtime at the jobsite.
Faster Rock Penetration
Optimized button placement and cutting geometry help maintain effective rock breaking and penetration.
- Efficient rock fragmentation
- Stable penetration performance
- Suitable for hard and abrasive formations
- Consistent drilling response throughout bit life
Spend more time drilling and less time changing worn tools.
Precision Taper Matching
The correct taper fit is critical to efficient energy transfer between the drill rod and bit.
We offer tapered drill bits in 7°, 11°, and 12° configurations to match different drilling systems.
- Accurate taper geometry
- Consistent dimensions
- Reliable rod-to-bit connection
- Reduced risk of poor fit and excessive wear

Lower Cost per Meter
A cheaper bit is not necessarily the most economical choice.
Longer service life, reliable carbide retention, and stable drilling performance can help reduce:
- Bit replacement frequency
- Drilling downtime
- Unexpected tool failures
- Consumable cost per meter
The goal is not simply a lower bit price—it is a lower total drilling cost.

Why We Prefer 35CrNiMoV for Skirt Bodies
The steel grade of the skirt body affects the balance between hardness, wear resistance, toughness, and resistance to fracture.
For tapered button bits, we generally prefer 35CrNiMoV because it provides a better balance between strength, toughness, and wear resistance after appropriate heat treatment.
35CrNiMoV
- Good strength and toughness balance
- Suitable for impact drilling
- Better resistance to brittle fracture
- Suitable for repeated impact loading
- Commonly preferred for tapered bit bodies
45CrNiMo1V
Compared with 35CrNiMoV, the higher carbon content can allow higher hardness and strength after heat treatment.
However, excessive hardness can reduce toughness, increasing the risk of cracking or fracture under repeated impact loading if the material and heat-treatment condition are not properly matched to the application.
| Property | 35CrNiMoV | 45CrNiMo1V |
| Carbon content | Approx. 0.35% | Approx. 0.45% |
| Potential hardness | Moderate–High | Higher |
| Strength | High | Higher |
| Toughness | Better balance | Relatively lower |
| Wear resistance | Good | Higher potential |
| Impact resistance | Good | Depends strongly on heat treatment |
| Suitability for tapered bit body | Recommended | Application-dependent |
Actual performance depends on steel quality, heat-treatment parameters, bit geometry, drilling conditions, and manufacturing control—not the steel grade alone.
For tapered drill bits, maximum hardness is not the only objective.
The goal is to achieve the right balance of:
Hardness + Wear Resistance + Toughness + Impact Resistance
This helps the bit body withstand repeated impact while maintaining reliable service life.
Tapered Drill Bit Technical Insights
Long Skirt Body vs. Short Skirt Body
The correct skirt body length depends on the matching drill rod taper geometry—not simply on rock hardness.
35CrNiMoV vs. 45CrNiMo1V
Material selection affects the balance between hardness, wear resistance, toughness, and impact resistance.

What Is the Difference?
Long Skirt Body vs. Short Skirt Body
The skirt body length of a tapered drill bit is not determined by rock hardness. It is primarily related to the taper length and small-end diameter of the matching tapered drill rod.
For example, for an H22-12° tapered drill rod, the small-end diameter may be available in different configurations. The corresponding bit skirt design must match the actual rod geometry.
Key Selection Rule
_____________
Do not select a long- or short-skirt bit based on rock hardness alone. Match the bit to the taper length and small-end geometry of the drill rod.
